“A Commendable Display of Castell Pencils.”

The Castell pencil was introduced in 1905 by A.W. Faber-Castell, and since then has become known the world over. So it’s interesting to see some advertising from a time when they were perhaps a little less well-known. The following are notices from 1909 for two store window displays:

+1 for “Stationers are fully alive to the importance…”

    Hmm, not really the understated style I associate with Faber-Castell and the Castell 9000 in particular.

      There’s something like 7 of those oversized pencils there — I wonder if the resellers had to purchase those display items, or at least, if they wanted extras.
